Taos SmartCode Charrette,

In September 2007, the City of Taos charged a multidisciplinary consultant team to help its citizens and elected leaders create a new code to compliment the ideas articulated in the city’s Vision 2020 Plan. HFA played an important role by conducting the pre-charrette stakeholder interviews to facilitate community involvement in the charrette process. HFA also organized the charrette logistics while in Taos so the Charrette Team would be ready to efficiently customize the SmartCode during the weeklong event.

During the charrette, HFA used a variety of tools to facilitate small group sessions and public open houses, which were attended by over 250 visitors. Open Space Technology, Asset Mapping, and Idea Train sessions helped the Charrette Team understand the vision of Taos citizens and translate it into a SmartCode. HFA completed GIS maps that highlighted open space, civic space, and figure ground images.
