SR-26 Mainline Improvements,
Sussex County, DE

In 2000, DelDOT completed the SR26 Planning Study, a study area from US113 to the Assawoman Canal and from Roxana to the Indian River Bay. After the completion of the planning study, HFA provided support with public involvement associated with the SR26 Mainline Improvements portion of the project. HFA attended monthly Project Team meetings, and developed strategies for keeping the public informed. Some of those efforts included blanket mailings advertising public workshops, full-color newsletters, and certified mailings to individual property owners along SR26. HFA’s facilitation of the SR26 Improvements Advisory Committee meetings resulted in many accomplishments, such as the completion of interim improvements at two key intersections.

HFA’s efficient analysis of workshop comments helped initiate the study of an additional shared center left turn lane between intersection throughout the entire project limits, a concept supported by a variety of stakeholders throughout the project area.
