Bellanca Hangar Condition Survey,
New Castle, DE
HFA lead a team of specialists through the investigation of an historic airplane hangar.
The Bellanca Hangar was constructed in 1935 following a fire that had destroyed
the original hangar. This hangar has three ‘classic’ bow-string trusses that create the
required clear span for the hangar. The hangar is located on Delaware Route 273
midway between Greater Wilmington Airport and the historic town of New Castle,
DE. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Currently,
the Hangar sits vacant awaiting for a variety of improvements aimed at transforming
the building into a local aviation museum.
