Capitol Gateway Project,
Washington, D.C.
A 60-acre major waterfront redevelopment project that involved the design of approximately 2,400 dwelling units, one million square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail, a 500-room convention hotel, and a variety of open space and waterfront related improvements. Virtually all of the building areas were to be constructed over a new development deck. Primary access, parking and services area were planned at grade, under the development deck. Located at the base of the South Capital Street Bridge crossing the Anacostia River, the project was a planning and development effort by the Dravo Corporation to capitalize on their waterfront land holdings at this site.
